HUNTSVILLE, AL – Helping to fulfill a pledge of "open, honest government" Huntsville Mayor Tommy Battle faced tough questions and a packed house at his first town hall meeting, sponsored by WHNT Channel 19, The Huntsville Times and Merrimack Hall.
Topics at the town hall meeting ranged from the money the City of Huntsville spends on lobbyists to the completion of the North Memorial Parkway Overpass.
The town hall meeting, which was held at historic Merrimack Hall, was held in front of a packed house of nearly 300 attendees.
Answering a question about the Huntsville/Madison County Jail project, Mayor Battle promised Huntsville taxpayers a "full and open disclosure" of what went wrong with the project and praised the work of Jeff Easter, the Director of General Services, for moving the project in the right direction.
"We came into a card game and are playing a hand that someone else was dealt," said Mayor Battle.
Battle stated that he hoped the successful town hall meeting was the first of many during his administration.
"I want to thank WHNT Channel 19, The Huntsville Times and Merrimack Hall for their efforts with this meeting," concluded Battle.
"We all work for the people – and we need to have this type of accountability."
