Huntsville Fire & Rescue retains ISO ranking
ISO scores can affect insurance premiums |
HUNTSVILLE, AL (April 29, 2010) - Huntsville Fire and Rescue was recently audited by the Insurance Service Office, Inc. (ISO) for the purpose of analyzing Huntsville's structural fire suppression delivery system. The ISO is the leading supplier of data and analytics for the property/casualty insurance industry. Most insurers use ISO's Public Protection Classifications for underwriting and calculating premiums for residential, commercial, and industrial properties.
The ISO survey process considered the following:
Receiving and handling of fire alarms by 911 Communications Center personnel;
The water delivery systems provided by Huntsville Utilities Water Department, Harvest-Monrovia Water and Sewer Authority, Limestone County Water and Sewer Authority, Owens Cross Roads Water Authority; and
Huntsville Fire and Rescue's front line fire apparatus and equipment, reserve apparatus, pumping capacity, distribution of fire stations, company personnel, and training.
The resulting grade allowed Huntsville Fire and Rescue to retain its previous Public Protection Classification of a Class 3/9 which is defined as:
CLASS 3:
If your property is within 5 road miles of a recognized fire station and within 1,000 feet of a fire hydrant you have a Public Protection Class of 3.
CLASS 9:
If your property is within 5 road miles of a recognized fire station but beyond 1,000 feet of a hydrant, you have a Public Protection Class of 9
CLASS 10:
If your property is over 5 road miles to a recognized fire station, you have a Public Protection Class of 10 which is defined as unprotected.
